Since the debut of “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace” in 1999, fans have been fascinated by the Jedi’s use of Kyber crystals to power their lightsabers. But what are Kyber crystals, and where do they come from? Where can you find a black kyber crystal?
Do you love Star Wars? Do you love crystals? If so, then you’re going to want to hear about how to get this crystal.
KYBER CRYSTAL, WHAT IS IT?
Kyber crystals are one of the most powerful and mysterious objects in the Star Wars universe.
One reason kyber crystals are so enigmatic is that no two crystals are alike. Some variations between them include color and more unique qualities like the power output and effect on a lightsaber.
Blue, green, and red are the most popular lightsaber colors in Star Wars media. Less common ones include purple, yellow, and white.
The black kyber crystal is the most obscure of the bunch, like its color.
Not many people know about black kyber crystals. So where can they be found, and why are they so rare?
The crystals in this Star Wars galaxy help to power every lightsaber. They are a very rare and essential piece that is necessary for all lightsabers…
In Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, they sell individual Kyber Crystals that you can use and swap out in your custom-made lightsaber. They can also be placed inside holocrons and unveil secret messages to you.
WHAT ARE THE KYBER CRYSTALS USED FOR AT THE DISNEY PARKS?
In the Star Wars universe, kyber crystals are what power lightsabers. At Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland, you can purchase a plastic collectible kyber crystal that has RFID technology and interacts with other products in the area, like Savi’s Workshop lightsabers and Jedi and Sith holocrons.
Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge sells kyber crystals in seven different colors: red, blue, green, purple, white, yellow, and the elusive black.
Kyber crystals can be found and collected on their own, but they are more commonly used in Savi’s Workshop lightsabers or electronic holocrons from Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities.
The color of the kyber crystal determines the lightsaber blade color of the Savi’s Workshop lightsaber (the only exception is for a black kyber crystal, which unlocks a red blade). Each different colored crystal also unlocks wisdom from a different Star Wars character when it is installed in Dok-Ondar’s Den Holocron.
Savi’s Workshop
At Savi’s Workshop, guests can build their own lightsabers. The cost of the workshop is $220+tax, which includes the cost of the lightsaber itself.
Guests are given the choice of four different lightsaber hilts, each with its own unique design. Once they have chosen their hilt, they are given a black box containing all the components needed to build their lightsaber.
The assembly process is fairly simple and only takes a few minutes.
Once completed, guests can test out their new lightsabers at the nearby Jedi Training Academy.
The experience itself is amazing and, in my opinion, well worth the price.
WHY IS THE BLACK KYBER CRYSTAL SO SPECIAL?
While blue, green, and red lightsabers are commonly seen in Star Wars, black is a much rarer color.
The most famous black lightsaber is the Darksaber, which was owned by The Mand’alor in the past.
However, there is still some uncertainty. Although the usage of colored kyber crystals has been indirectly stated, never has a black kyber crystal been mentioned.
The Darksaber’s color has never been officially explained, but is it possible that the Darksaber has a black kyber crystal? Out of all the possible colors for kyber crystals, black is only seen in one case. This begs the question…
Given the link between black and darkness, it seems like a popular color for Sith to wear. So why don’t they appear more often?
The rarity of black kyber crystals might have to do with Tarre Vizsla.
The only Mandalorian to join the Jedi Order was Vizsla. Although he satisfied the requirements, his culture remained ingrained. This implies that if he had attuned himself to the kyber crystal while maintaining a warrior-like attitude, the kyber crystal might have turned black as a result of his culture.
At the Disney theme parks, the message inside the black Kyber Crystal reads:
“Today, you have found something truly special. This small fragment of obsidian is infused with the power of the dark side. When placed inside a lightsaber or a holocron, this rare fragment with unnatural powers mined from dark side shrine will have similar properties as a red Kyber Crystal.”
GETTING A BLACK KYBER CRYSTAL
DOK-ONDAR’S DEN OF ANTIQUITIES
The likelihood of finding a black Kyber Crystal is quite slim, but Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities in Batuu offers the best chance of acquiring one. Both the Walt Disney World and Disneyland locations sell silver-top red Kyber Crystals, with a very small chance that they will be upgraded to black crystals.
Inside these containers are the special black Kyber Crystals.
BLACK KYBER CRYSTALS ON EBAY
Individuals who cannot frequently visit Disney Parks to search for a black Kyber Crystal can always explore the resale market, which comprises websites such as eBay, Mercari, and Poshmark. Prices vary considerably, falling anywhere between $200 and $300!
If you don’t want to pay the high costs, there are some makers on Etsy who have made replicas that cost around $30.
WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF GETTING A BLACK KRYBER CRYSTAL
The odds of receiving a black Kyber crystal from Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities have not been released by Disney. However, many people believe the chances to be 1 in 100.
These Disney YouTubers, Happy Place Explorers, have multiple videos on how they found a black kyber crystal and updates on how you can, too.
HACKS TO FIND A BLACK KYBER CRYSTAL
Flashlight Method
This trick no longer works, so I won’t be discussing it.
Shaking Method
People have been trying to devise a new technique to find the black crystals after the flashlight approach didn’t work. Every Black Kyber crystal container contains an additional piece of paper that explains what you’ve found..
The extra piece of paper theory supposes that if you shake the canister, the paper prevents the crystal from moving–thus signaling to you that it’s time to buy a new one. Others say that if you listen closely enough, you can hear the spare piece of paper rattling around inside. Though this method is not foolproof, as store noise and the number of people present often make it difficult to hear anything.
WHAT DOES A BLACK KYBER CRYSTAL DO?
While a black Kyber Crystal may not have any noticeable effects when placed in a lightsaber, it will still emit the same sound and red light as the red kyber crystal.
WHAT IS THE RAREST KYBER CRYSTAL COLOR
The black lightsaber is the rarest color in the Star Wars saga. That’s because it’s the only one that has been seen. The Darksaber was the first Mandalorian child in the Jedi order. Furthermore, there are a variety of hues that might be characterized as uncommon lightsaber colors in this famous franchise.
HOW DOES A KYBER CRYSTAL TURN BLACK?
A kyber crystal can be black if the force user’s soul aligns with it.
The Darksaber was designed by Tarre Vizla, the first and only Mandalorian to be accepted into the Jedi Order. It’s possible that his kyber crystal became black as a result of his unique Mandalorian culture.
NECKLACE WITH THE BLACK KYBER CRYSTAL
If you hate waiting, Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities sells Kyber Crystal necklaces. Even though these crystals won’t work in your lightsaber, it’s a fun way to get one without spending tons of money on chance.
If you’re looking to snag one of these ultra-rare Black Kyber Crystals for yourself, your best bet is to head out to Galaxy’s Edge and hope the odds are in your favor. May the Force be with you! Have you been able to get your hands on a Black Kyber Crystal yet? Let us know in the comments below.
